I was perusing Pinterest and saw someone had made a bookmark and turned it into a card. OMG! I remember this! We used to make these bookmarks when I was in High School. (Note for my Son: And yes they did have High School in the Middle Ages). Us crafty types made them for everyone we knew and a few favorite teachers as well. I must say I love the patterned papers it’s a nice upgrade from note book paper reinforced with cellophane tape.

To make the bookmark: Start with a square piece of paper as shown in the diagram above. Here, I have used 12.5cm x 12.5cm or 5″ x 5″ which is about what we used long ago (in a galaxy far far away).

Fold your paper in half. Now unfold and turn your paper ninety degrees and fold in half the other direction. Open your paper, you now will be able to see your paper divided into four squares. Cut away the bottom right square.

Fold the right square flap over the “front” square. Place glue on the remaining bottom square flap and fold up over that right flap.

You now have a square open on two sides. Turn your square over and rotate it so that the opening is to the left and bottom. Fold the point up diagonally towards the upper right corner. You can leave a border showing or fold it up completely hiding the pattern underneath. I recommend gluing this triangle down to reinforce the bookmark.

Now let’s decorate! For this card I used the Stylish Shapes dies to cut two circles. One from the designer patterned paper and one from coordinating card stock. I glued the patterned paper one to the book mark and glued the other one to the white mini card to act as a kind of mat behind the book mark.

The rest is pretty easy. Just assemble your pieces. Card base first, chosen patterned paper mat. Another piece of Lemon Lime Twist with the mini white card layered on top of that. The bookmark will sit on the corner of this mini card. I used the left over pieces of the patterned paper to decorate the card. And of course stamp your greeting. I used the Happy Labels stamp set for both cards. The one below was made for a dear friend who is a knitter.

A special thank you to Karen Titus for the inspiration. Follow me on Pinterest, where I follow her and many other talented card makers. I have pinned her card to my feed in case anyone wants to see her fantastic example of this card.
