What can I say? The beach has been calling to me for weeks now. I have created another childhood memory of a weathered life guard shack on the beach. But even more compelling is this die set; there are lots of little pieces to play with. So no fancy fold today, just me having fun making pictures. After all this why we make cards, to have fun and express ourselves.

Directions

Cut a card base 21cm x 14.45cm (8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″)from the Azure Afternoon Card Stock. Score at 10.5cm (4-1/4″). Turn your card base so the fold is at the top.

Using the Crumb Cake card stock cut a first layer of 14.4cm x 10cm (4″ x 5-1’4″). Using the larger of the Deckled Rectangle dies cut a frame by placing the die in the center of the card stock and cutting out the center of this piece. Be sure to line up the die so that there is an equal border all of the way around the rectangle. If you are working with me in metric you will need to center up the die as the ends will be longer than the sides of the frame. Meaning there will not be an equal amount of border on all sides.

Continuing with the Crumb Cake card stock, stamp the sand castle image and the sandpiper (small bird) image with the Memento black ink and die cut these out. Next cut two of the wavy lines on strips of card stock. These strips should be as long as the die and about 5cm (2″) wide.

Close to the top of one of the wavy strips, stamp your greeting in Memento Black ink. Arrange your strips so that they look like small sand dunes, I found it looked best when I turned one of the strips to the back side. I also brushed a little bit of Crumb Cake ink along the edges so they would stand out. Glue the strips to each other and then to the frame. You will need to trim off any excess that sticks out from the frame.

At this point you can adhere the frame to the front of your card leaving a 5cm (1/4″) border of Azure Afternoon all the way round. (See finished photo at the blog beginning.)

Using small scraps of Pecan Pie card stock, Granny Apple Green card stock and Garden Green card stock die cut the pieces for the palm tree. Place the green frond one on top of the other and glue together. Next glue the trunk to the fronds. Place the tree down so that it over laps the right side of the frame and glue flat.

Stamp the life guard station image onto the Smoky Slate card stock. I used a white gel pen to color in parts of the image and a black gel pen to color in the base. I wanted the coloring to be a bit rough to imitate a weathered structure. Die cut the image and place dimensionals on the back to raise it up. Note: Both regular and mini dimensionals were used, some needed to be cut down to fit.

Three seagull images were stamped onto a scrap of white card stock and die cut. The upper and lower seagull images were glued flat to the card, the center one was raised on a mini dimensional.

Lastly for the outside of the card, place mini dimensionals on the sand castle image and sand piper image and affix them to the lower corners.

The inside of this card is decorated with more stamping. (What can I say, I was on a roll!) I colored in the umbrella image and beach chair with Blueberry Bushel, I intended to use the Azure Afternoon and just picked up the wrong marker. Seeing that it was too dark I used the color lifter for parts of the images. I was pleased at the denim like appearance and decided to leave it even though I think the Azure Afternoon is a better choice.

Affix your liner to the card and you ready to send it to someone special.
