Another easel card for your enjoyment! If you are looking for a card that is big on impact but small on the supplies needed, this is your card. It is also easy enough to make tons of them to send out to friends and family this holiday season. This design has been around for years but I have usually seen it presented as laying on the long side. The first time I saw it in this presentation was in one of the fun fold videos by the lovely Jackie Bolhuis. I have linked her video below.

Directions

Card Base

Cut a piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock to 10.5cm x 28cm (4-1/4″ x 11″).

Place your card stock into the paper trimer with the short side to the top. Move the card stock so to the 2.5cm (1″) mark on the right side of the blade track. Place your cutting blade at the 11.4cm (4-1/2″) mark and cut down to the 24.4cm (10|) mark. Turn the paper over and repeat. You should have two slits in your card stock 2.5cm (1″) in from the side and 13cm (5-1/2″) in length. See photograph.

Alternatively you can mark a light line on your card stock and cut with a metal ruler and craft knife.

Now turn the card stock so the long side is at the top. Score the following lines:

  • At 11.4cm (4-1/2″) score from the top edge down to the first cut line and again from the second cut line down to the bottom edge.
  • At 14cm (5-1/2″) score from top cut line down to the bottom cut line.
  • At 22.8cm (9″) score from the top edge down to the first cut line and again from the second cut line down to the bottom edge.
  • At 25.4cm (10″) score from the top edge down to the first cut line and again from the second cut line down to the bottom edge.

See the photograph to show you how to fold along the score lines. Fold the card flat and burnish well. (Click on photo to enlarge.)

Decorate the Base

For the narrow side panels cut your Designer Series Paper to 2cm x 10.8cm (3/4″ x 4-1/4″) Glue one to each side panel leaving a narrow border of the Cherry Cobbler card stock showing all the way around.

Optional bottom panel is also cut from the same Designer Series paper, 2cm x 10cm (3/4″ x 4″). Glue to the bottom leaving and equal border bottom and sides.

Optional center panel size it 5cm x 11cm (2″ x 4-1/4″).

As you can see from the photo I opted to use the bottom panel and not the center panel. I have given you all of the measurements so you have options.

If you read my blog you know I am a great fan of ‘card liners’ because they add weight and are a great place to stamp greetings and write messages. For this card, the ‘liner’ is placed on the back. I feel the weight is need there and again, it is a great place to write personal messages. The size of this panel is 10cm x 11cm (4″ x 4-1/2|”) and is cut from the basic beige and stamped with the smaller of the evergreen trees in Shaded Spruce.

The trees are stamped with Shaded Spruce ink onto basic beige card stock and cut out with the matching outline dies. Die cut elements cut from Shaded Spruce card stock are layered on top. These die cut elements are fairly fragile so before die cutting I backed the card stock with some double sided adhesive sheet. It made gluing the dies together easier. I did not use the double sided adhesive on a previous project and regretted it.

The Merry portion of the greeting is die cut from using the smaller banner die from the Peaceful Seasons die set and using basic beige card stock. The stamp is from the Peaceful Seasons stamp set and is stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink.

The background of the Christmas portion of the greeting was cut from the basic beige card stock. The actual word is cut from Cherry Cobbler card stock. The greeting elements are raised up on dimensionals.

Thank you for reading today. As always I hope you give this card a try. It is remarkably easy once you see the ‘trick’ of it. Please post a picture in the comments or on social media and tag me @loriothen.
