I had seen a photo of this card but could not find any instructions. The photo did not have a name for the card or a clue as to who made it. I knew it would be perfect for this Designer Series Paper so I set out to recreate it. Since this is a variation on the classic Z fold card I thought I would name it the Z-Fold Plus. If you know who the original designer is please drop a note in the comments, I always try to give credit to designers!

Directions

Creating the Card Base

Card base is cut from the Summer Splash card stock, 27cm x 10.5cm (10-5/8″ x 4-1/4″).

Position your card base with the long side at the top, measure in from the right side 7.7cm (3″) and draw a very light line towards the bottom of the card. Place a second line at 20.6cm (8-1/8″).

For the next step, place your card in the paper trimmer on the 4cm (1-1/2″) mark, cut from the 7.7cm (3″) line down to the 20.6cm (8-1/8″) line. (See photo, if you need a closer look you can click on the picture to enlarge it.)

Using the score blade on your paper trimmer or a score board, place your paper with the long side at the top. Score a line at the 7.7cm (3″) mark from the top down to the cut line, no not score past the cut line.

The next score line will be at 14.1cm (5-9/16″) and will be from top to bottom with no breaks. The third score line will be at 20.6cm (8-1/8″) and will only be from the cut line down to the bottom of the card. (See Photo)

To fold the card, fold the upper half back at the 7.7cm (3″) mark. The center fold will be split with the upper half folded inward and the lower half folded outward. The final small score line folds in the same direction as the upper center fold. I know it sounds confusing, I made myself a little crazy trying to write the directions. It’s better to just follow the photo. Once you see it folded it becomes easy. The fun fold part of the card base is now done

Decorating

For the front right side of the card the first layer (shown in white card stock is cut to 7.2cm x 10cm (2-3/4″ x 4″). The top layer is cut from the Designer Series Paper and is 6.9cm x 9.7cm (2-5/8″ x 3-7/8″).

The center pieces are also layered. For the shorter bottom pieces, cut two of each, basic white 6cm x 3.5cm (2-1/4″ x 1-3/8″) and two of each, Designer Series Paper, 5.7cm x 3.2cm (2-1/8 x 1-1/4″).

For the upper center pieces cut two 5.8cm x 6cm (2-1/4″ X 2-3/8) from the Petunia Pop card stock. The top layer is cut from white card stock, 5.5cm x 5.7cm (2-1/8 X 2-1/4). I stamped an ‘inside’ greeting from the Unbound Love stamp set onto one of the white layers, the other I left blank so I could write a message.

The far left side of the card is cut using the same white card stock and Designer Series Paper. The white is cut to 6cm x 10cm (2-1/4 x 4″). The patterned paper is cut to 5.7cm x 9.7cm (2-1/8″ x 3-7/8). The photo above is laid out to show where the pieces are to be placed on the card.

Finishing

The front greeting is stamped onto a 5.5cm ( 2-1/8″) circle cut from white card stock, using Petunia Pop ink. I used one of the circle dies from the Spotlight on Nature Die set but any circle die or punch of the approximate size will work. Dimensionals are placed on the back side of the circle to pop it up. A bow tied with the Petunia Pop ribbon and mounted with a glue dot finishes the greeting.

The last finishing touch is to die cut foliage pieces out of the Petunia Pop and Summer Splash card stock and glue them to the various panels. I even cut apart one of the clusters to tuck behind the greeting circle.

Thank you for viewing this tutorial, I hope you give this fun card a go. If you do please post a picture in the comment section or on social media and tag me in @loriothen. As I stated above this idea was taken from a photograph. All of the measurements and mistakes are mine, although I did test out the design many, many times so hopefully there are no boo-boos to be found.
